Class Outline:
- Students will first learn to spin roving (pre-carded) into one-ply yarn.
- Learn fiber preparation techniques by carding wool using a carder tool
- Students will blend wool to make a custom color with small hand carders to make another one-ply yarn.
- Students will ply these two yarns together to make a 2-ply yarn.
- Finally, learn how to bind the yarn using the Niddy Noddy tool.
Spinning wheel is faster and produces more yarn than drop spindle, but requires knowledge of drafting technique. For this reason, we recommend students take our Drop Spindle class first. We teach on an Ashford Kiwi3 Spinning Wheel. Instruction is curated to your individual learning objectives. For example, you can choose not to learn how to card.
This class is only available at the DUMBO studio between Wednesday and Saturday. Please use the form below to let us know your preferred date/time and your experience.
