Yukiko Yokoyama, a world master of Yoroke weaving artists, will be holding a workshop in Brooklyn, New York!
Yoroke weaving (also known as Ondulé weaving) uses a special fan reed that creates a beautiful, flowing warp line as you weave, allowing dynamic patterns to emerge. Yokoyama’s technique is filled with secrets for holding its shape, enabling the weaving of long cloth that fully highlights the curved patterns.
In this workshop, participants will start threading through the harness with kasuri-dyed threads created by Yokoyama that were already threaded through the fan reed. Then wind them, and learn the weaving technique. This is an intermediate-level class, so participants are required to have warping skills. (For those who may be beginners, please take a class at our studio before the workshop.)
The Yoroke fan reeds used in the workshop will be available for purchase from the instructor.
Yokoyama will generously teach you the techniques she has developed over 40 years of experience. This is the first class outside Japan— don’t miss this rare opportunity!
We recommend also attending our workshop on Kasuri dyeing, which will add to your skills and help you create even more beautiful Yoroke weaving.
