Level: Beginner
One 2-hour class

Join us for a private 2-hour class to learn the fundamental process of spinning wool by hand. You will learn the whole journey of turning fiber to yarn, including drafting, carding and blending techniques, and how to spin natural roving wool into single-ply and two-ply yarn. You will take home approximately 35g or more of your own hand-spun yarn!

Drop spindle provides a convenient and portable method for spinning. We recommend taking our Drop Spindle Class before moving on to the Spinning Wheel to build a foundational understanding of the spinning process if you have never tried it before.

Class Outline:

  1. Students will first learn to spin roving wool (pre-carded) into one-ply yarn.
  2. Learn fiber preparation techniques by carding wool using a carder tool
  3. Students will blend wool to make custom color with small hand carders to make another one-ply yarn.
  4. Students will ply these two yarns together to make a 2-ply yarn.
  5. Finally, learn how to bind the yarn using the Niddy Noddy tool.

This class is only available at the DUMBO studio between Wednesday and Saturday. Please use the form below to let us know your preferred date/time and your experience.

Warp Comparison

The weft color appears more vivid with a black thread warp. The weft color looks like it is covered with a soft veil with white thread warp.
